JMJC Excels in Canada

Montreal, QC - Members from the Glenville, NY based Jason Morris Judo Club (JMJC) registered their best performance at the Rendez Vous Canada winning four medals including one gold september 24-25, 2005. Ronda Rousey (18) led the way winning the 63kg weight class with a 5-0 record including an exciting come from behind win in final against the favorite, Ikumi Tanimoto (Japan). Carrie Chandler (24) picked up her fourth Rendez Vous Canada medal winning a silver in the 52kg division posting a 4-1 record on the day. Chandler lost a very competitive final to Hisae Takara (Japan). Katie Mocco (21) won a silver for the second straight year at 70kg going 4-1. Mocco's only loss was in the final to Asuka Oka (Japan). Aaron Cohen (24) capped off the JMJC medal count picking up a bronze in 81kg. Cohen went 4-1 including a dominate win over US Olympian, Rick Hawn in the bronze medal match. Youngster, Jeremy Liggett (16) who has been hot all summer continued to come into his own at the senior level made it all the way to the semis at 60kg where he lost to Blake Tsuyuki (Canada). Liggett then lost a tight bronze medal match to Gonzo Ibanez (Canada). Liggett's result here earned him the #2 senior ranking in the US behind only 2004 Olympian, Taraje Williams-Murray. Nate Torra (22) fought well in 66kg going 3-2 and a fifth place finish to hang on to his #2 ranking in that division. Yuko Sin (18) went 2-2 and finished seventh at 81kg. Sin is climbing the ladder at the senior level and has reached all the way to the #5 ranking due to his performance during the summer. Jemaine Jarvis (16) went 2-2 to finish seventh at 55kg. Nick Delpopolo (16) performed very well in his first tournament back since having ACL reconstruction surgery on his knee. Delpopolo went 1-2 at 73kg including holding a lead on eventual silver medalist, Slava Rogov (Canada) until there was 20 seconds remaining in the bout when Rogov threw Nick for ippon. Dave Chapman (19), Jess Elizalde (18), AJ Silverman (17) and Kyle Vashkulat (15) all fought well for the JMJC but did not place.
