     Chandler Wins Bronze

 

            Arlon, Belgium - Jason Morris Judo Center (JMJC) athlete, Carrie Chandler (24) started off her 20 day European tour with a bang posting a 6-1 record in 52kg to claim a bronze medal at the Women's Belgian Open. Chandler had decisive wins over Jayne Clason (England), Erin Boone (Belgium), Sophie Johnstone (England) and Kathy Feenen (England) before losing to tight quarter final battle to eventual champ, Riecarda Rau (Germany). Chandler held the lead in that bout but was caught for ippon with 10 seconds remaining. Carrie went on to beat Bianca Hock (Germany) then armlocked Clementine Harnichard (France) to win the bronze in her first time at the Belgian Open. Chandler is an employee at the Albany, NY Home Depot on Central Ave. Also getting her first taste at the Belgian Open was JMJC teammate, Katie Mocco (22) who competed at 70kg. Mocco went 1-2 including a loss to North American rival and eventual bronze medalist, Catherine Roberge (Canada). Burnt Hills High School Senior, AJ Silverman (18) was making his debut onto the International scene and lost his opening bout to a German fighter at the men's Belgian Open, which was held in Vise. Chandler, Mocco and Silverman along with JMJC teammate Nick Kossor (20) who is just getting back from knee surgery will stay on in Belgium and attend the training camp for the week before moving on to Paris, France for the French Open.
