Chandler, Kossor, Mocco & Silverman Head to Europe

Chandler (24), Nick Kossor (20), Katie Mocco (22) and
AJ Silverman (18) left today for a
20 day European competition and training tour.
Their first stop will be to compete this upcoming weekend at
the Belgian Open, which is in two different locations. The women's
event will be in Arlon and the men's in Vise. The athletes will then
meet up after the event for a week long training camp in Belgium
before they head to Paris for one of Judo's premier events, the
French Open. Chandler and Mocco will compete while Kossor and
Silverman attend as spectator's. The group will then stay in Paris
for a week to train at the French Open camp before they move on to
the Hungarian Open in Budapest, which will be their final stop
before returning home. Chandler who is firmly the #1 ranked US
athlete at 52kg will be competing in the Belgian & Hungarian
Open's for the first time. She will be making her third appearance
in the French open. Chandler hopes to start 2006 where she left off
in 2005 as she enjoyed her best season on the tour, which included a
Pan Am championship title and making her first US World team. These
events will all be a first for Mocco who is the #1 ranked US player
in 70kg. Mocco also had her best year ever in 2005 highlighted by
making the US World team that competed in Cairo, Egypt. Burnt Hills
High School Senior, Silverman will get the opportunity to compete at
66kg at the Belgian Open for men. He is currently the #1 ranked Jr.
at 66kg and will be using this tour as preparation for the Jr. World
trials which will be held at the Jr. US Open in late July. Burnt
Hills High graduate, Kossor, who has successfully recovered from
total ACL knee reconstruction will using this as preparation for the
US Nationals in late April where he could challenge the top guys at
60kg for this year's spot on the Pan Am championship team.
