Chandler Wins Bronze at Finnish Open

Vantaa, Finland - Carrie Chandler (25) from the Glenville, NY based, Jason Morris Judo Center (JMJC) won a bronze medal at the Finnish Open Sunday, November 12, 2006 posting 4-1 record on the day in 52kg. This was on heels of a seventh place finish at the Swedish Open last weekend.   Chandler opened with a dominant win over Rikke Berg (DEN) then lost in the quarters to Kim Renicks (GBR) sending her into the repachage (loser's bracket).  Chandler then proceeded to string three straight victories together beating Laurie Wiltshire (CAN), Jaana Sundberg (FIN) and Stephanie Inglis (GBR) to land on the podium to claim her second European Judo Union (EJU) "B" medal this year.  Chandler won a bronze in the EJU "B" level event in Belgium earlier this year.

Chandler's JMJC teammate, Nick Kossor (20) competed at the 60kg division and scored a major upset on his way to a seventh place finish in the first round beating 2005 US Open champ, James Millar (GBR) in an overtime thriller. Kossor then lost a tough match to Farid Ben Ali (FRA) in the quarters putting Nick in the repachage were he beat Josuka Tanka (SUI) before falling to eventual bronze medalist, Anitti Rintamaki (FIN). Kossor finished ninth last week in Sweden.

The two JMJC athletes will now return home on Monday after completing a highly successful European tour.
