Paris, France - Carrie Chandler from the the Glenville, NY  based Jason Morris Judo Center (JMJC) went 3-2 in 52kg to place 9th at the prestigious French Open over the weekend. This was on the heels of Chandler's bronze medal performance at the Belgian Open in the city of Arlon last week. The French Open is only behind the Olympics and World Championships in terms of difficulty. Chandler opened her day by beating 2005 Belgian Open Champ and German #1, Mareen Kraeh in an overtime thriller. Carrie then defeated Aurelie Plaisant (France) and Kahina Daoud (France) by ippon before losing to eventual champ, Junjie Shi (China) in the quarterfinals. Chandler then lost an extremely tight battle to eventual bronze medalist, Kyung Ok Kim (Korea). JMJC's Katie Mocco, who is on the tour with Chandler lost her opening 70kg bout in the closing seconds to 2005 British Open Champ, Anne Laure Poli (France). Poli lost her next match to 2005 World Champ, Edith Bosch (Netherlands) which eliminated Mocco from her first French Open. Chandler and Mocco will stay in Paris for their training camp before they move on to Budapest for the Hungarian Open, which will the last stop on the tour.
