Chandler Takes Seventh

 

         Budapest, Hungary - Jason Morris Judo Center's (JMJC) Carrie Chandler finished up her European tour taking seventh place in 52kg at the Hungarian Open posting a 3-2 record over the weekend. Chandler (24) opened up with a win by pinning Andrea Romgalicza (Romania) then beat Kim Renicks (England) before falling in the quarter final to eventual silver medalist, Hedvig Karakas (Hungary). Carrie moved on in the loser's bracket beating Tatjana Trivic (Serbia-Montengro) then lost to eventual bronze medalist, Yuka Nishida (Japan). This result improved Chandler's mark on the tour to 12-5 and bumped her world ranking to #12. Chandler also placed ninth at the French Open along with taking a bronze medal at the Belgian Open on her three stop tour making it to the quarter finals in each event. JMJC teammate, Katie Mocco (22) lost her first round 70kg match in the closing seconds to Mariya Semenyuk (Ukraine) then Semenyuk lost in quarters eliminating Mocco. Chandler and Mocco will now reload at the JMJC to get ready for the second leg of their European tour as they will compete in the Citta de Roma in Rome, Italy March 25-26 and the British Open in Birmingham, England April 1-2.
