JMJC Win 9 Medals

 

         Ft. Lauderdale, FL - Athletes from the Glenville, NY based Jason Morris Judo Center (JMJC) won 9 total medals including 4 Gold at United States Judo Federation Jr. Nationals over the weekend, Burnt Hills High School Senior, Nick Delpopolo (17) started the day by going 4-0 to capture the 73kg 17-19yrs division. Delpopolo looked sharp on his way to the final winning all by ippon then capped of the day beating his main rival, Bobby Lee in the final. Delpopolo and Lee will hook up again next week in the Jr. World trials on Saturday, July 29. Burnt Hills High Graduate, Hannah Martin (18) dominated the 57kg 17-19yrs category posting a 4-0 record beating all comers setting a good tone for herself for the Jr. World trials. Shaker High Graduate, Marina Shafir (18) cruised to the 78kg 17-19yrs. title going 3-0 on the day without facing any challenge. Burnt Hills Graduate and UAlbany Sophomore, Yuko Sin (19) won in dominant fashion on his way to a 4-0 record including a win over #2 man Phillip Spano in the final. Dave Carelli (18) posted a 3-1 record in his Jr. National debut and won a silver medal in the 55kg 17-19yrs. division. Burnt Hills Senior, Jeremy Liggett (17) went 4-1 to take a bronze losing a horribly refereed match to rival Ronnie Talledo in the semis. Talledo contiued to stall and make false attacks but was not awarded any penalties allowing him to maintain his early lead. In the process of the day Liggett crushed his two main competitors that he will face again at the Jr. World trials. Liggett threw Aaron Kunihiro and Tito Ramos for ippon. Burnt Hills High Junior, Kyle Vashkuat (15) secure his #1 seed for the Jr. World trials with a solid showing taking a bronze medal in the 90kg 17-19yrs posting a 4-2 record. Burnt Hills High graduate, AJ Silverman (18) also locked up his #1 seed with a bronze medal performance in the 66kg 17-19yrs. division. Silverman also was subjected to bad officiating as he dominated his match with Chris Garcia but the refs mistakenly gave AJ a penalty when it should have gone to Garcia. Josh Woosley (15) closed out the JMJC medal count picking a bronze medal in 55kg 15-16yrs. division in his first Jr. Nationals. Ronni Aragona (15), Jeremy Galib (12) and Cleo Grinberg (18) also competed well but did not place.
