Kyle Vashkulat and Tony Sangimino in Paris

Paris, France -

SCCC student,Kyle Vashkulat(19) from the Jason Morris Judo Center (JMJC) placed ninth at 15th Jr. World Championships in Paris October 16-19, 2009 posting a 1-1 record on the day.

Vashkulat opened his day in the 100kg division with a decisive win over Stefan Jurisic (Serbia) throwing him for two waza-aris to get the victory. Kyle then faced eventual silver medalist Tomasz Domanski (Poland) in the second round.

The match started well for Vashkulat as he was the aggressor and dominated the gripping but at the halfway mark dropped underneath Vashkulat to score ippon with morote seionage ending Kyle's run having to settle for ninth place for a second straight Jr. Worlds.

The JMJC's other representative in Paris was SCCC student Tony "Goose" Sangimino (19) who competed at 90kg.

This was Sangimino's first Jr. Worlds and provided him a great deal of experience at this higher level. Sangimino lost in his opening bout to eventual bronze medalist Daiki Nishiyama (Japan) getting caught with left osoto in the second minute of the match. "Kyle and Tony fought well and brought back a wealth of knowledge and experience from the trip" said 4x Olympian and JMJC coach, Jason Morris who made the trip with them. "They have very bright futures and I expect you will be hearing a lot from these two moving forward" Morris continued.

Montreal QC -

Athletes from the Glenville, NY based Jason Morris Judo Center (JMJC) enjoyed another stellar weekend by winning four total medals including two gold at the prestigious Rendez Vous Canada event October 17-18, 2009. This brings the total medal count for the JMJC at the Rendez Vous Canada (RVC) to an impressive 32 in it's nine year history. Natalie Lafon (28) started out the medal rush by winning her first RVC title and third medal overall.

Lafon took a silver here the past two years at 48kg here before moving up to 52kg this year. Lafon capped of her championship run by beating Canadian #1, Laurie Wiltshire in the final in a rematch of last weeks Quebec Open final in which Wiltshire won.

Lafon dominated the rematch throwing Wiltshire for two waza-ari's with the first being an osoto then ouchi to end the match. This results firmly puts Lafon at the #2 spot in the US at 52kg and brings in the sights of #1 Janette Rodriguez. Lafon will have an opportunity to eclipse Rodriguez for the #1 slot when she goes to compete in the Finnish & Swedish Open's that will be November 1 and November 7-8, 2009. SCCC student, Kyle Vashkulat (19) wouldn't be out done by Lafon as he turned his best career performance to date be claiming his first RVC title going 4-0 in the 100kg weight class.

Vashkulat finished his day off with a dramatic final victory over Canadian #1 and four time world cup medalist, Scott Edward (24). Vashkulat had never previously beaten Edward losing their last three meetings.

The bout was a tense close battle until Edward attempted a weak attack and Vashkulat took advantage throwing Edward for ippon (full point) with te garuma at the three minute mark. This result should give Vashkulat a major confidence boost for the upcoming Jr. Worlds in Paris, France in which he leaves for later today with teammate Tony Sangimino (90kg) and coach, Jason Morris.

This result solidifies Vashkulat as the US #1 at 100kg. SCCC student Hannah Martin (21) picked up her second straight RVC bronze medal in the 57kg division. Martin was 4-1 on the day including pulling out a dramatic come from behind win for the bronze throwing Canadian #1, Jolene Melecon in the last 6 seconds with the switch for ippon.

Martin will be going to Finland and Sweden with Lafon to close out her latest competition swing. Union College Freshman, Angela Creutzberger (19) won her first RVC medal taking a bronze at 48kg to rise to a career high #4 in the US rankings. Sarah Black (30) made it to the medal round losing in her 63kg bronze medal match to US #1 Janine Nakao. Black is now ranked #4 in 63kg.

Burnt Hills, NY

552 athletes representing CA, CT, FL, IL, IN, MA, MD, NH, NJ, NY, PA, RI, VA, VT, WY, Barbados, Brazil, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Japan, Russia, Slovenia, Ukraine & four Canadian provinces descended on Burnt Hills High School in Burnt Hills, NY on Saturday May 9, 2009 for the 8th Annual Morris Cup, a Senior Level E qualifying event for national judo rankings.

The event is hosted by the Glenville, NY-based US National Training Center at the Jason Morris Judo Center (JMJC) at 584 Rt. 50. The Morris Cup was the final leg of the four event "Zebra Tour" with the first being the Starrett Cup then continuing on to the Pedro's Challenge then the Ocean State International.

The winners of the elite divisions also took home $250 in prize money and if any athlete won all four events they would qualify for a $1000 bonus.

JMJC's Nick Kossor entered the Morris Cup as the only remaining athlete to have won the previous Zebra Tour events so all eyes were on him to see if he could capture the final leg. Kossor did so in style in a very competetive 60kg weight class to become the first ever "Zebra Tour Champion" and collect the bonus.

The JMJC also captured the team title for the fourth time. The JMJC also won the team title in 2002, 2004 & 2007 while Mayo Quanchi won in 2003, 2005 & 2008 with Pedro's Judo Center winning in 2006.

The Morris Cup, which was named in honor of Jason's father who passed away at the closing ceremonies of the 1992 Olympics after seeing his son (Jason) win a silver medal, has increased in popularity and number of athletes in each of it's eight years of existence.

Kicking things off as they have for the past eight years was local recording artist "Dan Wos Project" who performed some old rock and roll favorites along with some of their signature tunes.

The event started at 10am and the Judo action went non stop until finishing up close to 9pm.

"The Morris Cup had a long line of sponsors and volunteers who made it all possible which we are very grateful for" tournament director Jason Morris said at the close of the event.

Sangimino & Vashkulat Earn Jr. World Berths

Lake Buena Vista, FL - SCCC students Tony "Goose" Sangimino (18) and Kyle Vashkulat (19) from the Jason Morris Judo Center (JMJC) in  Glenville, NY won their respective divisions over the weekend at the Jr. Olympics to earn a spot on the US Jr. World team that will compete in Athens, Greece October 22-25, 2009.

The results marked a USA Judo record seventh consecutive year in which at least one athlete from the Glenville,  NY JMJC has won a berth on the USA’s Jr. World team.   Sangimino breezed through the 90kg field displaying a variety of techniques to earn
his first trip to the Jr. Worlds.

Vashkulat also had a easy go of it to make his second straight Jr. World team joining Burnt Hills High School ’06  graduates Jeremy Liggett and Nick Delpopolo (06 & 08) as two-time members. Vashkulat went 1-1 in his debut at the Jr. Worlds in 2008 in  Bangkok, Thailand.

2009 Burnt Hills High Graduate Anglela Creutzberber (18) took a silver medal in the 48kg weight class losing to long-time nemesis Katelyn Bouyssou in the final. Creutzberger, who will be attending Union College in the fall, beat Bouyssou to make the Jr. Worlds last year and also defeated her in the 2008 Olympic trials.

2008 Olympic Coach & JMJC Head Coach Jason Morris will accompany the team to Athens as an assistant coach.  "Angela, Kyle and Tony fought extremely well and we are very proud of them and their continued progress." Morris said.

Mount Greylock High School Junior Jeremy Galib (15) easily claimed a gold in the 15-16yrs. 81kg division posting a 4-0 record and winning all of his matches by full point. Galib qualified earlier in the year to compete at the Cadet Worlds which will be held in Budapest, Hungary August 6-9, 2009.

Burnt Hills High Freshman Jack Hatton (13) fought well to take a bronze medal in the 13-14yrs. 58kg weight class and Robby Schultheis (17) also took bronze in the 55kg category to close out the JMJC medal count.

Russell Jiu Jitsu presents a clinic by North American Grappling ASSO world champion, Nolan Duther at the Jason Morris Judo Center (JMJC) Saturday, July 18 from 1-3pm

Rene CapoTwo-time Olympian Rene Capo succumbed to a year-long battle with lung cancer on Monday, July 6 at the age of 48.

Capo coached and competed for the Glenville, NY-based Jason Morris Judo Center for a little over 2 years before moving to Naperville, IL in the spring of 2007.

Capo, who competed at the 1988 and 1996 Olympic Games, made a comeback to the sport at the age of 46 when the seven-time Senior Nationals medalist returned to judo in 2007. Although he was viewed as a top candidate for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team, Capo fell just short of qualifying for the Trials after defeating many of the top 100kg players throughout the season.

Just over two months after he placed fifth at the USA Judo Senior National Championships in April, 2008, Capo was diagnosed with lung cancer.

A native of Miami, Capo excelled in both judo, football and wrestling. The natural athlete not only won national titles in judo in three decades (1970s, 80s and 90s), but Rene also played Big Ten college football for the University of Minnesota alongside some great players including future Denver Broncos' star Karl Mecklenburg.

Capo came back to judo and miraulously made the 1988 Olympic team where he would form a life long freindship with teammate and JMJC owner, Jason Morris. "Rene Capo competed in judo, in football and in the end he competed for his life," said Bob Berland (1984 Olympic Silver Medalist), Capo's teammate at the 1988 Olympic Games.

"In the Olympics it's not about winning or losing; it's about the struggle. Today one of ours lost his battle to cancer but he fought till the bitter end and will forever be a champion who lost the battle, but whose spirit has won the war!

Rene Capo

We will miss you Rene Capo - a great competitor, but more importantly a great father and a great friend to us all! Capo leaves behind two young children, Alex, 11, and Anthony, 8.

"Rene was many things to many people, but for me he was a great friend, great father, great teammate and one hell of a judo competitor," said Jason Morris (Glenville, N.Y. / USA Judo National Training Site at the Jason Morris Judo Center) who competed on the 1988 and 1996 Olympic Teams with Capo.

A fellow juo player, parent and coach offered anonymously that Rene's competitive career spanned his entire adult life. Rene has had an impact on every heavyweight and middleweight in USA judo and is an inspiration to us all.

His living example of playing for the pure joy of it will always be a motivation by example in USA judo and in life as a whole. He will be missed but not forgotten.

Congratulations to JMJC's Angela Creutzberger on her graduation from Burnt Hills High School.

Creutzberger, who is currently ranked #4 in the US at 48kg will be attending prestigious Union College in the fall of 2009

Athletes from the  Jason Morris  Judo Center (JMJC) in  Glenville, NY  won 9 medals including 4 gold at USA Judo's first ever Presidents  Cup June 13-14.

The 9 medals were enough for the JMJC to win the team title as well. SCCC student Brad Bolen (20) went 4-0 to win the title at 66kg moving him up into a tie for the #1 spot in the US rankings.
Natalie Lafon (28) regained her #1 ranking by winning the 48kg crown which included a win over silver medalist and JMJC teammate Angela Cruetzberger who moved up to #4.

SCCC student  Hannah Martin  easily won a gold at 57kg to solidify her # ranking.
SCCC student Kyle Vashkulat (18) added a gold in the Open weight class to his 100kg bronze on day 1 to retain his #1 ranking.

JMJC newcomer Jake Stromecki (19) won a bronze in the Open to enter the US rankings for the first time coming in at #5.

SCCC student Tony Sangimino turned in a very good performance to take a 90kg bronze losing only in the semis to #1 Jake Larson.
Sangimino's effort improved his US ranking from #15 to #6 at 90kg. Nick Kossor closed out the day 2 medal count winning a bronze at 60kg.

San Diego, CA - The Glenville, NY-based Jason Morris Judo Center (JMJC) matched its best performance in a US Sr. Nationals (April 17-18) winning a total of 8 medals (1 gold, 4 silver, 3 bronze). Though the year after the Olympics is a rebuilding year the 2009 version of the JMJC kept coaches Teri Takemori and Jason Morris busy all weekend as virtually ever player was in medal contention.

Kim Carpenter (25) led the way with a magnificent showing winning all 6 of her matches by ippon with six different techniques to claim her first National medal and title. Carpenter entered the event as the #3 seed but in the semi-finals she upset the heavily-favored Jeanette Rodriguez by throwing her in the first minute. Carpenter then proceeded to dismantle #1 seed Kayla Chappell, pinning her in the final to take the 52kg National crown and earn a 2-out-of-3 fight off with Chappell for the Worlds berth. Carpenter threw Chappell for ippon in the first match of the fight off then arm-barred Chappell in the second bout to secure the World Team spot on the 2009 US World team that will compete in Rotterdam, Holland August 26-30. This marks the 4th consecutive World or Olympic team featuring at least one JMJC athlete. The streak started in 2005 when the JMJC first had athletes make the World team that competed in Cairo, Egypt. Carpenter was both enthusiastic and humble in victory saying, "Jason and Teri made me from almost nothing proving that any athlete can come to the JMJC, get good and compete for championships as long as they follow the program."

SCCC student Nick Kossor (23) collected a 60kg Nationals medal for the fourth consecutive year (1 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze) by winning a 2009 silver with a 4-1 mark. Kossor was seeded #2 and seemed poised to overtake #1 Aaron Kunihiro as Nick had won the four previous Kossor-Kunihiro battles. However Kunihiro, with his hit-and-run style, was able to keep up a frenetic pace and while his attacks were of no real threat to Kossor it made it difficult for Nick get off any offense and Kossor was penalized four times for passivity handing the victory to Kunihiro.

SCCC student Hannah Martin (20) picked up her fourth consecutive Nationals medal (2 silver, 2 bronze) winning a silver at 57kg. Martin lost in the final to 2007 & 2009 World team member Marti Malloy. Martin fell behind by a yuko score in the first 30 seconds getting caught with a switch. Hannah dominated the remainder of the bout and broke Malloy's balance on a few occasions but Malloy's early lead held till matchs end giving the World team berth to Malloy.

SCCC student Kyle Vashkulat (18) earned two medals over the weekend taking a silver in 100kg and a bronze in the Open category. Vashkulat won four straight matches by ippon to advance to his first 100kg final where he faced #1 Djamal Aliev for a chance for the fight off for the World team. Vashkulat was somewhat tentative on this big occasion and got thrown for ippon with drop seionage in the second minute leaving him with the silver. Vashkulat then padded the JMJC medal count with a bronze in the Open division. His #1 status in the Open division earned Kyle a chance to compete for the World team berth against much bigger opponents. Playing for the pure joy of it Kyle competed against 2008 Olympian at +100kg, Dan McCormick in a 2-out-of-3 fight off. McCormick outweighs Kyle by 40kg and he took advantage of that fact by throwing Vashkulat with a switch. But Kyle humbled the big man in the second bout submitting the Olympian with an arm bar and sending the contest the full three matches. Kyle was very much the aggressor in the rubber match with a number of threatening attacks. McCormick was able to counter a Kyle Vashkulat ouchi gari even as he was being thrown for a desperate win. Confident even in defeat Kyle commenting that it could have easily been mine.

Natalie Lafon (28) came to San Diego as the #1 and was poised to make her first World team in front of her hometown crowd. Natalie cruised to the final where she was pitted against Katelyn Bouyssou. Bouyssou took an early lead and was able to hold on to win the title leaving Lafon with the silver. Lafon's #1 ranking earned her the right to face Bouyssou in a 2-out-of-3 fight off for the World team. The first match looked identical to the National's final fought just a few minutes earlier. Bouyssou got a small, scrappy score and held on to take a 1-0 lead. Lafon regrouped, changed strategies and came out firing in match two which she dominated scoring on a big hip throw. In the rubber match Bouyssou prevailed by scoring in her now-familiar technique of continuing a throw after it is initially thwarted. The high schooler's persistence led to a descisive ippon halfway through the five-minute bout ending Lafon's hope for a 2009 World team berth.

Burnt Hills senior Angela Creutzberger (18) won her second consecutive bronze medal at 48kg. Her loss also came at the hands of Bouyssou although Crueztbereger dominated the first half of their semi-final battle. Angela momentarily lost focus and was not expecting Bouyssou to take advantage in mat work where Bouyssou caught Angela with an armlock to make the final.

SCCC Student Brad Bolen (20) went 5-1 and collected his first National's medal taking a bronze at 66kg. The result improved Bolen's national ranking to a career-high #2.

JMJC newcomer Harry Chandler (23) made a big splash in his first Nationals making it all the way to the bronze medal match at 90kg. Harry's fifth place finish allowed him to become a nationally ranked player at #9. During Chandler's run he knocked off #3 Roger Mazella and nearly beat #2 Jake Larson in the quarterfinal. Chandler threw Larson with taio for waza-ari which many people thought should have been ippon but Larson fought back and pinnned Chandler in the closing minute to preserve the victory. Also at 90kg, SCCC student Tony Sangimino (18) beat #7 Carlos Moran on his way to the quarters and looked to be headed for a semifinal macthup with #1 Garry St. Leger but made a crucial error and was caught for a score against eventual bronze medalist Tony Comfort. A debatable scoring decision awarded the match to Comfort and led to Sangimino's elimination. Tony is all the wiser for the struggle.

Nick Carelli (28) had a spirited performance in his first Nationals and first tournament of any kind in 6 years finishing in seventh place with a 2-2 record. One of Carelli's losses was to teammate Nick Kossor in the quarterfinal. Carelli had been in a long-term recovery from a stubborn shoulder injury.

Leah Fisher (25) finished in ninth place at 70kg while Dave Carelli (20) and Paul Borodin (28) were 0-1 in 60kg and 66kg respectively and did not place.

JMJC Alum Travis Stevens (23) won his second National title at 81kg and qualified for the for his second World team while another JMJC alumnus, Nick Delpopolo (20), took the silver medal at 73kg.

Philadelphia, PA - Hannah Martin (20) and Kyle Vashkulat (18) of the Jason Morris Judo Center (JMJC) in Glenville, NY both won titles in their respective divisions at the 26th annual Liberty Bell Classic this weekend. Vashkulat's win catapulted him to the #1 US (100kg) ranking for the first time in his young career. Kyle is also ranked #1 in the Open category. Martin posted a 3-0 mark at 57kg and cruised to victory while Vashkulat went 4-0 to secure his crown. Tony Sangimino (18) put forth his best effort to date going 5-1 to take a silver in 90kg. Sangimino's performance put him on the national roster at 90kg for the first time entering at #15. Sangimino's stellar day included dominate wins over #3 ranked Roger Mazella (33) and #7 Carlos Moran (20). Tony's only loss came at the hands on #1 Garry St. Leger (23) in a match that was even until St. Leger was awarded the match on a debatable referee's call leaving St. Leger secure at #1 for the moment and Sangimino confident and hungry. Brad Bolen picked up a bronze at 66kg to close the JMJC medal count.

Buenos Aires, Argentina - Natalie Lafon (28) and SCCC student Kyle Vashkulat from the Glenville-based Jason Morris Judo Center (JMJC) performed well in their first Pan Am Championships as did JMJC alumnus Travis Stevens. Lafon continued to build her international resume by claiming fifth place and solidifying her #1 US ranking and #1 seed at next month's US Nationals/World Trials in San Diego, CA. If the #1 seed takes a gold medal at the Nationals she will earn a berth on the US World team that will compete August 26-30, 2009 in Rotterdam, Holland. If any #1 seed loses in any round at the Nationals they will be entitled to a 2-out-of-3 fight-off with the winner of the Nationals to earn the right to represent the USA on the World team. Though still only a junior, man-child Kyle Vashkulat (18) continued to build his reputation in 100kg by placing seventh. Kyle's most notable match was against Brazilian and 2007 World Champ Luciano Correa. Vashkulat battled the veteran Correa well into the third minute of the five-minute bout before being thrown. Stevens (23) won a gold beating 2004 Olympic bronze medalist Flavio Canto (35) in the final. Stevens also defeated Canto (Brazil) when he won the Pan Am Games in 2007.

York, PA - While their teammates were battling it out in Argentina the JMJC juniors traveled to York, PA under the guidance of Teri Takemori to compete in USA Judo's Scholastic and Youth Nationals. Jeremy Galib (15) led the way as he was in fantastic form going 5-0 to take a gold in the 15-16yrs 81kg division. This victory proved more significant than most as it earned Galib a spot on the US Cadet (under 17) World team that will compete August 6-9, 2009 in Budapest, Hungary. Galib also won a bronze in the 17-19yrs 81kg moving him to the #3 rankings spot and giving him a shot at also making the Jr. World team (under 20) which will compete October 22-25, 2009 in Athens, Greece. SCCC student Tony Sangimino (18) was firing on all cylinders in York displaying a variety of techniques going 5-0 to capture the 17-19yrs. 90kg title. Sangimino was the #1 ranked junior at 81kg and now is #1 at 90kg as well. Burnt Hills High senior Angela Creutzberger (18) took a silver in the 17-19yrs. 48kg division losing only in the final to long-time rival Katelyn Bouyssou (16) who is now #1.   Glenville, NY - Most of the remaining JMJC members hosted a first-time "JMJC Open" at the JMJC facility at 584 Saratoga Road and run by Jason Morris himself as Tournament Director. The JMJC's on-going effort to encourage the growth of grassroots judo attracted dozens of competitors from Albany, Syracuse, Utica and Troy and matched them with the local Schenectady and Saratoga County athletes. The event was treated as a vigorous tournament/training session as many participants fought in 10 or more matches and competed far outside their weight and age classes. In this goodwill event every competitor came away with a well-deserved medal. The event's success helps encourage another JMJC Open on April 25, 2009 and both serve as warm ups for the May 9, 2009 Morris Cup VIII which will attract over 500 competitors.

Providence, RI - Athletes from the Glenville, NY-based Jason Morris Judo Center (JMJC) hauled in 16 total medals including 6 gold at the Ocean State International Judo tournament March 21, 2009. The JMJC also won the senior team title. Leading the way was SCCC student Nick Kossor (23) who continued his impressive play by going 4-0 to win The 60kg title and the $250 first prize on this third leg of the Zebra Tour. Kossor also won the first two Zebra events (Starrett Cup & Pedro's Challenge) and if he can win his home event (the Morris Cup In Burnt Hills) he will collect a bonus of $1000 for winning all four legs of the Zebra Tour. Kossor is the only athlete left that has a shot at the bonus.

SCCC student Kyle Vashkulat (18) went 4-0 to claim the 100kg along with the $250 first prize as well claiming gold in the 17-19yrs 100kg division. JMJC teammate Tony Sangimino (18) (who also attends SCCC) won the silver in the 100kg division. As expected, SCCC student Brad Bolen looked sharp going 4-0 in capturing the 66kg title. More impressive than Brad's gold was his silver in the 73kg weight class where Brad put on a brilliant free judo clinic. His exhibitions of shime waza (choking) techniques and electrifying hip throws against larger opponents provided the day's highlight reel.

Sparkling technique was also on display from a focused and mature Laura Galib (10) who went an undefeated 6-0 in winning two weight classes. Burnt Hills Senior Angela Crueztberger (18) was also a double medalist winning silver in the 48kg division along with a silver in the 17-19yrs. 48kg category. Kim Carpenter (25) went 4-1 to capture a silver in the 57kg division while Hannah Martin moved up from 57kg to take a silver in the 63kg weight class. Amanda Galib (13) won a bronze in the 13-16yrs. division while Janelle Snider won a bronze in the +78kg category to close out the JMJC medal count.

Glenville, NY - Congratulations to JMJC Assistant Coach Kevin Koch and JMJC student Lucille Feher! Kevin proposed marriage to Lucille during a technical session in newaza when he pretended to ask Head Coach Jason Morris a question on the proper application of a move.

Koch cooly asked Lucille to come to the front of the class as if to show coach Morris his problem with the newaza move then pulled a flower from his judogi and asked Lucille to marry him and got a big "Yes" then proceeded to cool down Lucille's hand with a beautiful diamond ring.

New Rochelle NY - In an on-going effort to be supportive of grassroots judo local judo athletes from the Jason Morris Judo Center (JMJC) traveled to New Rochelle, NY to compete in the 4th annual New Rochelle Open March 15 sponsored by friends from San Yama Bushi Judo Club. Dave Carelli (21) put the bellows to his competitive fire in preparation for next month's Nationals in San Diego, CA by playing in three divisions on three separate mats against mostly heavier opposition taking a first place (60kg) and two seconds (66kg & 73kg). Remy Pauillard (8 years old) of JMJC at Lycee Francaise du NY got his first ippon in a competition taking third place while Burnt Hills freshman Harrison Hatton (15) took a second and a third playing in two divisions. O'Rourke Middle School's Jack Hatton (13) rounded out the field playing in four divisions, taking three Golds and a Silver and going 8-1 on the day.

The grassroots effort by the USA Judo National training site at the Jason Morris Judo Center will be furthered next week when the JMJC descends on Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in support of a local tournament there. Next month (April 25) marks the first JMJC Open which will be held at the JMJC's training facility on Rt. 50. These grassroots events all permit local communities to be exposed to judo and for novice and up-and-coming judo players to be given vital tournament experience. JMJC Director Jason Morris, who was introduced to judo at Glenville's Parkside YMCA, summed up the effort in saying: "With the recent Olympic year now behind us I have re-dedicated our program to strengthening American judo's roots by supporting the sort of events and facilities that got me going in the first place. My club and I are a product of grassroots judo."

Germany - Congrats to JMJC alumni Amelie Gerstl who just recently took a bronze medal at the 2009 German National Championships in 52kg
