           JMJC Athletes Win 5 Am Can Gold

 

         Amherst, NY - Glenville, NY based Jason Morris Judo Club (JMJC) members brought home 9 medals including 5 Gold from the Am Can International in Amherst, NY May 28-29. Burnt Hills High School Sophmore, Dave Carelli (17), Carrie Chandler (23), Jeremy Galib (11), Katie Mocco (21) and Ronda Rousey (18) won titles in their respective weight classes while Burnt Hills High Sophmore, Jeremy Liggett (16) won two bronzes, Burnt Hills High Junior, Amelie Gerstl (17) took home a silver and Kyle Pickering (8) also placed second in his first Am Can. Carelli went 3-0 in the Novice 60kg division to capture his first Am Can title. Chandler posted a 5-0 record in the 57kg weight class to win her fourth Am Can crown. Chandler was up from her normal 52kg weight class. Jeremy Galib easily won his third ever Am Can title posting a 3-0 record on the day. Katie Mocco turned in a quality performance to take the 70kg title with a 5-0 mark for the championship. Rousey also went 5-0 to capture her first 63kg Am Can crown including a dominate win over US #2, Ashlie Martini. Burnt Hills High Senior, Yuko Sin (17) placed fourth in a very competitive 81kg division going 4-2 on the day. Ronni Aragona (14) played very well to finish in fourth place with a 3-2 mark. Paul Borodin (24), Dave Chapman (18), Taylor Middendorf (23), Burnt Hills High Junior, AJ Silverman (17) and Burnt Hills High Freshman, Kyle Vashkulat (14) all competed well but did not place. Borodin did record a big win as he slammed US #2 in 60kg, Gerard Cadet in the first round of the 66kg division.
