Bigec & Chandler Win Gold--Liberty Bell Judo Results
Philadelphia, PA - Shayna Bigec & Carrie Chandler of the Glenville based, Jason Morris Judo Club won Gold medals at the Liberty Bell Classic Judo Championships, April 20-21, 2002. Bigec went 3-0 winning all her matches by ippon on her way to the title in the 11-12 heavyweight division. Chandler also went 3-0 to win the 57kg womens division. Chandler had convincing wins over national rivals Iris Feliciano and Christal Ransom. Carrie improved her record against Feliciano to 6-4 and Ransom which is now 8-1. Liz Burns added a Silver medal to the count turning in another great performance going 5-1. Burns only loss was to Cynthia Tan of Canada who also beat Burns at the Rendez Vous Canada last October. Burns came back to beat Tan in the modified doulbe elimination tournament by ippon marking one of her biggest vitcories to date. Tan is currently the #1 ranked 52kg player in Canada. Liz also had a dominating win over rival Katherine Ensler who beat her in the final of the High School Nationals a couple weeks ago. Jeremy Liggett won a silver medal in the 13-16 lightweight division with a 4-1 record. The 13 year old, Liggett's only loss came to 15 year old, Johnny Perez who now has two wins over what the Jason Morris Judo Club calls the "Human highlight reel".
