Midwest & Majic Judo Results
JMJC Win 16 Gold Chicago, IL & Fond du Lac, WI - Members from the Jason Morris Judo Club (JMJC) had a spectacular weekend winning a total of 19 medals including 16 Gold in two events over the weekend. On Saturday, March 29 the JMJC won 8 Gold and 1 Bronze medal at the Midwest Championships in Chicago. This event had over 500 competitors from all over the US. Jeremy Liggett led the way going 5-0 in his own 13-14yrs. 110lbs division to take the title then he moved up a weight class to the 13-14yrs. 129lbs and won a Gold there too with a 5-1 record. Nick Delpopolo won a Gold in the 13-14yrs. 150lbs division with a 5-1 record including two wins over rival, Bobby Lee who had defeated Delpopolo in their previous meeting in PA. Carrie Chandler went 4-0 to claim the 57kg women's title including two dominant wins over #2 ranked, Marti Malloy. Malloy beat Chandler in their previous match up at the Rendez Vous Canada. Chandler now holds a 6-1 edge over Malloy. Liz Burns continued her winning ways going 3-0 to easily capture the 52kg women's weight class. Nate Torra also had an easy time of it cruising to the 66kg men's title with a 4-0 mark. AJ Silverman turned his best performance as a JMJC member going 4-1 to capture the 15-16yrs 145lbs crown. Among Silvermans wins was a spectacular overtime victory over Adam Moyerman in the semis. Shayna Bigec won a Gold in the 11-13yrs +108lbs weight class with a 4-0 record. Bigec also picked up a Bronze medal in the 14-16yrs. 139lbs with record of 2-2. Gina Franzese was on her way to winning a medal until she dislocated her
elbow in the 57kg division. Franzese will be out of action for at least 4 weeks. Taylor Middendorf and Leah Fisher competed in the 70kg division but did not place. The JMJC then drove 2 hours to Fond du Lac, WI on Sunday March 30 to compete in the Majic Invitational. Jeremy Liggett (2 Gold), AJ Silverman, Nick Delpopolo, Nate Torra, Shanyna Bigec, Taylor Middendorf and Carrie Chandler all walked away with Gold medals. Bigec added 2 silver medals when she moved up in age and weight. Next up for the JMJC will be the Swamp Classic in Laffayette, LA April 5 for Jeff Albino and Mike Blizinski while Matt Rudat, Matt Siciliano, Jeremy Liggett, Nick Delpopolo, Shayna Bigec, Ronni Aragona, Taylor Middendorf and AJ Silverman will be competing in the CT States in Norwich, April 6 Jason Morris Judo Club 518-399-3936
