Win 11 Medals
Newark, NJ - Athletes from the Glenville, NY based Jason Morris
Judo Club won 11 medals including 8 gold at the East Coast Championships
over the weekend. AJ Silverman (15) led the way going 7-0 over the
2 day event winning Gold medals in the 60kg Sr. brown belt division
and the 140lbs jr. weight class. Silverman, a sophomore at Burnt
Hills High, impressively all of his matches by ippon with using
a veriaty of techniques. Liz Burns (18) moved up a weight class
to 57kg from her normal 52kg and went 4-0 to win the gold. On her
way she dominated 2 top quality players from Canada, Kim Hardie
and Lori Wiltshire. Carrie Chandler (22) also moved up a weight
class to 63kg from 57kg. Chandler went 4-0 to claim gold including
an exciting overtime victory over one of Canada top 63kg players,
Martin Geoffrine. Brandan Greczkowski (26) continued on the comeback
trail and went 4-0 to take the gold in 66kg. Among Greczkowski's
wins was a dominate one over current 60kg National Champ, Taraje
Murray. Brandan, who lives in Saratoga is now 10-2 since joining
the JMJC team and is currently ranked #8 at 60kg. Nick Kossor breezed
through the 60kg division with a 3-0 record. Kossor (17), a Senior
at Burnt Hills, is tied with teammate, Grezckowski at the #8 spot
in the USA Judo national rankings. Burnt Hills Freshman, Jeremy
Liggett (14) crushed all comers to win the 55kg 13-16 division.
Liggett was 4-0 on the day winning all his fights by ippon. Ronni
Aragona went 3-0 to win the 45kg 9-12 division winning all of her
matches by ippon. Newcomer, Yuko Sin won a silver medal in the 73kg
13-16 division with an impressive 6-1 mark. Mike Blizinski (36)
went 2-1 and added a silver at +100kg then Dave Chapman (17) posted
a 2-2 mark at 100kg to win a bronze. Jeremy Galib was 3-2 in 95lbs
9-12 division, but did not place. Shayna Bigec (14) was 2-2 in the
63kg 13-16 weight class but did not place. Gina Franzese (22) fought
well but did not place at 57kg going 1-2 and Jeff Albino (21) was
1-2 at 100kg. John Schiavo (10) fought in his first tournament and
fought very well losing both his bouts in the 110lbs 9-12 division.
