Jr. Olympics is Golden
Ft Lauderdale, FL - Athletes from the Jason Morris Judo Club (JMJC) won five total medals including 3 Gold at the Jr. Olympics this weekend. Jeremy Liggett (15) led the way going 5-0 winning all his matches by ippon to win the 15-16yrs. 60kg title. Liggett adds this to his USJA Jr. National title he won 2 weeks ago in Chicago. Dave Chapman (18) was 4-0 to Capture the 17-19yrs. 90kg crown to strengthen his hold on the #1 spot in the battle to earn a spot on USA's Jr. World team that will compete in Budapest, Hungary from October 14-17. Nick Kossor (18) is also making a run at the Jr. World team and he closed the gap between him and #1 Kenny Hashimoto (18) to 3 points on the National roster. Hashimoto and Kossor will likely meet next week at the Jr. US Open. AJ Silverman (16) continued to improve and claimed a silver dispatching all comers easily except JMJC teammate Kossor in the 17-19yrs. 60kg division. Silverman has shown a steady improvement mostly due to his commitment and hard work since moving from Palm City, FL and clearly has a bright future ahead. Ronni Aragona also continues to improve and impress on her way to winning a silver in the 13-14yrs. 48kg division. Aragona's only two losses were to one of the USA's top Jr. players, Francesca Durand who is ranked #7 on the Sr. roster and #1 on the Jr. roster. Jeremy Galib (10) rounded out the JMJC's participation in this event placing fourth in the 11-12yrs. 48kg division going 2-2. Galib lost both times to eventual champ and long time rival Max Gelombo (10). The team will stay in Ft Lauderdale this week and prepare for the Jr. US Open next weekend which will be held in the same venue.
