Liggett Places Seventh
Jeremy Liggett at 2008 Jr Worlds

Thailand, Bangkok - Hudson Valley student Jeremy Liggett posted a 3-2 record to place seventh at 66kg in the 14th Jr. Judo World Championships October 23-26, 2008, becoming the highest-ever Jr. Worlds finisher for the Glenville- based Jason Morris Judo Center (JMJC). Liggett was at his best at the Rajamangala indoor stadium in Bagkok and appeared to be on his way to the semifinal when he threw eventual silver medalist Zsolt Gorjanacz (HUN) for ippon (full point)but the judges mysteriously failed to record the score and the match continued. Liggett was then forced to press on and try to come back from an early deficit and couldn't quite do so and lost the quarter final battle. Liggett then dropped down to the loser's bracket and lost to eventual bronze medalist Masahi Ebinuma (JPN) to finish seventh. Liggett opened his day with three straight devastating wins to make the quarters over Kantimur Bopoev (KGZ), Hussein Al-jarrah (YEM) and then Georgios Giankanidis (ALG) showing off various techniques to wow the crowd. This capped off a very good performance for the JMJC athletes with Kyle Vashkulat finishing ninth, Nick Delpopolo going 1-1 and Angela Creutzberger and Helen Delpopolo dropping their first round matches but competing well.
