JMJC
up to Pedro's Challenge
Wakefield, MA - Members from
the Glenville, NY based Jason Morris Judo Club (JMJC) won
12 medals including 9 Gold which was also enough to capture the team
championship trophy at the second annual Pedro's Challenge Judo
tournament Saturday, February 19 that had over 350 total
competitors. Jeremy Liggett
(15) led the way winning 3 medals including titles in the 132lbs
13-16yrs and 150lbs 13-16yrs division and taking a silver in the
mens 60kg weight class losing only to JMJC teammate, Nick Kossor
(19) in an overtime thriller in the finals. Liggett was awarded the
"Most Outsanding Jr." trophy for his efforts. Dave Chapman (18) capped of his
day with an exciting win in overtime to take a gold in the 100kg
weight class adding that to his silver medal in the 90kg category. Liz Burns (20) easily won the 57kg division. Carrie Chandler
(23) took the title at 52kg and Katie Mocco
(21) won the 70kg division. This was a good warm up for Burns, Chandler
and Mocco as they prepare to go on a European competition and
training tour from March 2-21. They will compete in 3 events
(Finnish, Czech & Dutch Opens) and training camp in between. Amelie Gerstl
(17) won a gold in the 48kg weight class while Jeremy Galib (11) looked
good winning the 11-12 115lbs weight class. Ronni Aragona
(13) did very well in double duty winning a silver in the 52kg 13-16yrs
division along with capturing a silver in the 52kg women's category
which included a win over the girl who beat her in the jr. division.
Yuko Sin (17) rounded out
the JMJC medal count winning a bronze medal in the 90kg division. Paul Borodin (24), Dave Carelli (16), and AJ Silverman (17) also competed and fought well but did not reach the podium.
Next up for the
JMJC: Liz Burns, Carrie Chandler & Katie Mocco leave for their
European tour on March 2. Paul Borodin, Dave Chapman, Nick Kossor,
Jeremy Liggett AJ Silverman, Yuko Sin & Nate Torra will compete
in the prestigious NY Open at the NY Athletic Club March 6.
