Martin Captures Quebec Open Gold

Montreal, QC - Glenville, NY's Jason Morris Judo Center (JMJC) placed second as a team out of over 30 teams competing at this past weekend's Quebec Open. Among the competition were experienced teams from France, Brazil, Canada and Sweden. The JMJC finished behind only Montreal's own Shidokan which is Canada's National training center. Hannah Martin (20) led the way for the JMJC posting a 4-0 record to claim her first Quebec Open title at 57kg. Martin defeated teammate Kim Carpenter (25) in the final. Carpenter, who moved up from her normal 52kg division, looked terrific on her way to a 4-1 mark to record her first medal at this event. Paul Borodin (28) turned the best performance of his career making it all the way to the 66kg final to take a silver with a 4-1 record. Borodin's only loss was to JP Gagnon who is one of Canada's top players. Natalie Lafon moved up from her usual 48kg to place second at 52kg losing only in the final in a tight, overtime nail-biter to Karin Hermanssson (Sweden). 2008 60kg US National Champion Nick Kossor (22) looked very sharp on his way to a 4-1 record and a bronze medal at the heavier 66kg weight class. Angela Creutzberger (18) was a double medalist over the weekend taking a silver medal in the 17-19yrs 48kg division and following with a 4-1 mark to win a bronze in the 48kg women's category. Janelle Snider closed out the JMJC medal count taking a bronze at +78kg. Ronni Aragona (17) and Kyle Vashkulat (18) both finished in fifth place in 70kg and 100kg, respectively. Brad Bolen (18), Mike Doria (18) and AJ Silverman (73kg) fought very well but did not place.
