Montreal, QC - Travis Stevens (22) led the way for the Jason Morris Judo Center (JMJC) as it enjoyed it's best performance to date at the Rendez Vous Canada over the weekend. Stevens went 5-0 to capture his second straight Rendez Vous Canada title. Stevens, who won last week's US Open in Colorado Springs, dominated a quality 81kg field winning all of his matches by ippon (full-point) to further solidify his #1 ranking in the US.
Natalie Lafon (27) went 3-1 to take a silver losing only in the final to Canadian #1, Isabel Latulippe. This was on the heels of her first US Open medal (bronze) last week to move within three points of the #1 ranking in 48kg.
SCCC student Hannah Martin (20) posted a 3-1 record on the day to capture a bronze, her first at the Rendez Vous. Martin's efforts catapulted her to the USA's #1 ranking at 57kg for the first time. Martin's only loss was in the semi-finals to Canadian #1 Joliane Melacon in a tight hard-fought battle.
SCCC student Kyle Vashkulat (18) joined Martin as a first-time Rendez Vous Canada medalist winning a bronze at 100kg. Vashkulat's 3-1 day's work vaulted him to the USA's #2 at 100kg.
SCCC Student Brad Bolen (19) turned in a career performance going 5-1 to take a bronze medal at 66kg. Bolen jumped all the way to #4 from #15 on the roster with this breakthrough showing.
Yuko Sin (21) turned in one of his better performances in some time taking 5th place at 81kg and giving him a career-high #4 ranking at 81kg.
Nick Kossor (22) placed fifth at 60kg matching his 2007 result here. Kossor lost his opening match by the slimmest of margins to long time rival and eventual champ Sergio Pessoa (Canada) then won three straight matches before dropping his bronze medal bout to Sofiane Milous (France).
JMJC newcomer, Mike Doria (18) was impressive all day posting a 3-2 record to place fifth at 66kg. Doria moved up three places on the roster from #11 to #8.
AJ Silverman (20) and Nick Delpopolo (19) both went 2-2 placing ninth at 73kg. Kim Carpenter (25), Janelle Snider (32) and Tony Sangimino (18) also competed well but did not place.
