Manhattan, NY & Wayne, NJ – Athletes from the Jason Morris Judo Center in Glenville, NY enjoyed success over the weekend at the Garden State Classic in Wayne, NJ & the NY Open which was held at the historic New York Athletic Cub, Sunday, April 14, 2024. Ari Berliner (25) competed for team USA at the NY Open in 66kg and helped them earn a bronze medal beating Poland, Canada and tying Germany. Ramon Hernandez (23), Melissa Myers (28) & Burnt Hills Graduate, Kyle Tran (18) all won Gold medals at the 14th Annual Garden State Classic, Hernandez and Myers earned the “Most Outstanding Player” awards as well for their performance. Tran won gold in the 66kg U21 division while Hernandez won the elite 81kg category and Myers captured the 78kg title. Union College Sophomore, Alex Kapilian (20) won a silver in the 81kg novice division and Scotia High School graduate, CJ Tenney (18) won a bronze in the 66kg Brown belt category. Shenendehowa High Senior, Aidan Cosgrove (18) took a bronze medal in the 81kg Brown Belt division to close out the JMJC participation in NJ.
